Casted Dreams, Reborn – SEGA at SGF, Xbox Showcase, and More!

Key art for Sonic Pico Park

Growing up lamenting the loss of AGES blue skies in the early 2000’s, seeing SEGA have such a strong presence at this year’s SGF (Summer Games Fest) and other game conferences warmed my heart. It’s not just the Blue Blur speeding across adventures; SEGA has several exciting projects across several IPs, new and old, coming to all platforms over the next year or so.

Here’s everything you need to know about SEGA at Summer Games Fest and other major shows in 2026.

Crossing Fields – Sonic Racing CrossWorlds’ DLC Revealed

As Lord Sonic, I have to spotlight the Blue Blur’s latest updates coming to Sonic Racing CrossWorlds. At Summer Games Fest 2026, SEGA and Sonic Team showed off the TMNT Mutant Mayhem (July 2026) and Avatar Legends (October 2026) DLC Packs. Despite knowing about them already, seeing the Mutant Mayhem crew racing in New York and Aang sporting his Avatar: The Legend of Aang design while racing across a gorgeous race course honoring the franchise’s four nations is exciting.

Year Two Season Pass Revealed

Shocking everyone was the announcement for Godzilla and Neon Genesis Evangelion DLC packs, part of a Year 2 Season Pass. With the Godzilla pack, we don’t know what character or Car/Extreme Gear will be included, but the race track looks to feature the legendary Kaiju attacking Sonic Adventure 2’s City Escape.

Meanwhile, the Evangelion pack will feature Sonic and friends racing alongside the franchise’s iconic characters. It’s also funny in a meta sense, as the JP Voice actor for Sonic Frontiers’ Sage shares the same VA as Rei, who will join Askua as playable racers.

But will Shinji get in the mech? We shall see….

Remaining DLC Packs

Alongside these two DLC packs for 2027, four remain unannounced. SEGA and Sonic have crossed fields before with other anime franchises, like Sword Art Online for a fighting game. In addition, Sonic currently has an ongoing comic book crossover series with DC Comics, so the door is open for caped crusaders to join the CrossWorlds.

And don’t discount the idea of free DLC packs, as a few upcoming games I’ll be mentioning here have several characters who can join the CrossWorld racing tour.

Sonic PICO PARK Revealed

A surprise Sonic collaboration was announced alongside the new CrossWorlds DLC. Teaming up with the developers at TECOPARK, Sonic and his friends run through 2D platforming stages with a focus on puzzle solving and working together in Sonic PICO PARK.

The trailer showcases unique skills of Sonic and his friends, and skillfully using them as a team is key in solving these platforming challenges. Lord Addict went hands-on with this new Sonic venture, highlighting how cool it was using everyone’s unique skills to get through challenging levels.

Currently only confirmed for PC later this year, stay tuned for new information as Sonic’s big 35th Celebration continues!

Thoughts from King David from the Iron Lords Podcast

King David learned more about the game at Summer Games Fest! Below is his preview experience with World Tour, and after hearing his positive time with the game, I can’t wait to go on the world tour in 2027.

When I got there to SEGA’s booth, the creator of Crazy Taxi (Kenji Kanno) was there with an interpreter. On the screen, myself and ten people saw the original Crazy Taxi, and its history. I learned that people weren’t supportive of it originally, as people felt ‘Taxis were super boring’. After hearing the creator discussing the game’s launch on the Dreamcast and Naomi arcade machines, we saw World Tour.

The reason it’s called that is because of a story mode with different cities and countries to drive around, and I can’t wait to see it. The soundtrack, again, from what they explained, will be a mix of old and new.

When we saw the gameplay in action, one of the mini-games involved fishing, as players got a fisherman to the dock and had to use the driving controls to pull the fish out of the water. That’s when I realized that Crazy Taxi has evolved. That moment, gameplay ended, and we had a short Q&A about World Tour.

The game looks like an incredible reimagining of what Crazy Taxi is, without losing its charm and soul.

A Fighting Adventure – Virtua Fighter Crossroads Story Trailer

During Summer Games Fest, SEGA and RGG revealed Virtua Fighter Crossroads, an ambitious fighter releasing in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2027. It takes the 3D fighting systems from past Virtua Fighter games but combines that with the storytelling from recent Like a Dragon titles.

Chris Jones aka CUnit broke down the reveal, saying the following on his excitement for the upcoming fighting adventure.

The announcement of Virtua Fighter Crossroads signals the beginning of a new era for one of gaming’s most respected fighting game series. By combining RGG Studio’s storytelling expertise with the franchise’s signature realistic combat, SEGA appears determined to bring Virtua Fighter to a new generation of players.

With a 2027 release window currently set, fans can expect additional reveals and gameplay details throughout the coming months as development continues.

Time to Make History! – Persona 4 Golden Xbox Game Showcase Trailer

XBOX made history once more, being the stage where a string of Persona reveals happened during the Xbox Games Showcase. It kicked off with Persona 4 Revival. The trailer showed the remakes’ impressive visuals, updated combat system, and more.

You can learn more about the game’s nuances and additional features by watching the Persona 4 Revival broadcast, which we reported on here.

Lone Prayers in the Darkness – Persona 6 Reveal

But news for P4 Revival wasn’t the only Atlus announcement, as Persona 6 was revealed. The newest installment in Atlus and P-Studio’s premier JRPG series will release sometime in the future on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Joseph Repko aka Lord Flame, reported on this exciting announcement, saying the following.

Later on in the show, they also revealed the next installment for the Persona franchise, Persona 6. This reveal was ominous and had very little to go on. The trailer was very creepy and dark with a green tint to it. When the game went up on the Xbox store, there were details outlined in the product description. With one part catching the internet’s attention, which was:

Navigate the rhythms of everyday school life and build friendships, pursue romance, and cultivate memories that matter. But beneath the surface of familiar streets and quiet neighborhoods lies something darker: strange rumors, unsettling urban legends, and occult incidents that only you and your closest allies can face.

To say this would be everything ATLUS brought to Summer Games Fest would be true, but Nintendo fans have one metaphor to unpack for this holiday season.

The Grand Trial Returns – Metaphor ReFantazio Switch 2 Port Announced

The 2024 Game of the Year contender Metaphor ReFantazio finally makes its Nintendo Switch debut on November 12th, 2026.

Writing the game’s review on Xbox platforms two years ago, Lord Flame had nothing but glowing praise for the adventure.

Metaphor ReFantazio is an absolutely incredible experience all around. From the grand story to the long journey across the land with fantastical designs throughout. With an incredibly fleshed-out job system with the Archetypes and a combat system that makes exploration more fun with a classic JRPG experience beside. The amazingly stylish UI and menu coupled with the experimental music hammers home the time, talent, and effort poured into it.

Rounding out SEGA’s and Atlus’ announcements at SGF 2026 was Stranger Than Heaven. The game will feature major actors and music artists, representing the different eras. SEGA said the following regarding that below, via official press release.

SEGA and RGG Studio unveiled new cast additions for their highly anticipated upcoming action-adventure game, STRANGER THAN HEAVEN™, including iconic rapper and actor Tupac. Actors Takashi Ukaji, Yasukaze Motomiya, Takaya Kuroda, and Kohei Tsuji (Nippon no Shacho) will also be joining the cast.

Following the trailer reveal, RGG Studio Head Masayoshi Yokoyama was joined on stage by Snoop Dogg, who touched on the inclusion of Tupac as a new character named Amaru. Snoop Dogg is also contributing to the game’s official theme song along with Satoshi Fujihara, Ado, and Tori Kelly who also portray characters in the game.

STRANGER THAN HEAVEN will release worldwide January 15, 2027 on XBOX Game Pass, XBOX Series X|S, XBOX on PC, XBOX Cloud, Steam, and PlayStation 5. It is available now for pre-order.

Thoughts from Lord Cognito

Lord Cognito went hands-on with the exciting upcoming RGG title, sharing his thoughts on his experience below.

From how each era stood out from one another, a deep combat system that has weight to every action, and boss encounters that test player mastery, Stranger Than Heaven is one action game everyone should keep an eye on.
