What Is The Magic: The Gathering Announces Rise of the Polygons Secret Lair for Extra Life 2026?

Wizards of the Coast has announced its latest Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drop, Rise of the Polygons | Extra Life 2026, bringing a nostalgic retro gaming aesthetic to the popular trading card game. Inspired by the low-polygon graphics of late-1990s 64-bit adventure games, this five-card collection features familiar Magic cards reimagined with artwork reminiscent of classic video game adventures.

However, this latest Secret Lair is about more than collecting unique cards. Wizards of the Coast is once again partnering with Extra Life to support Seattle Children’s Hospital, with 50% of each purchase price going toward helping children and families in need. The collection will be available beginning November 16, with a limited number of copies also being sold at MagicCon: Atlanta.

Rise of the Polygons Brings Retro Gaming to Magic: The Gathering

For anyone who grew up playing video games during the late 1990s, the visual style of Rise of the Polygons | Extra Life 2026 should look particularly familiar. The collection draws inspiration from the early days of 3D gaming, when low-polygon characters, blocky environments, and imaginative worlds helped define an entire generation of video games.

This latest Secret Lair imagines what a Magic: The Gathering adventure might have looked like during that era. The artwork follows Young Pyromancer and their Elemental companion as they embark on a fantasy adventure featuring treasure chests, a legendary sword, and a massive dragon awaiting defeat.

It’s a fun concept that combines the fantasy elements of Magic with the charm of classic 64-bit adventures. Rather than simply giving the cards alternate artwork, the collection uses a shared theme to make them feel like different moments from the same imaginary video game.

What Cards Are Included in Rise of the Polygons?

The Rise of the Polygons | Extra Life 2026 Secret Lair features five cards and tokens showcasing the retro-inspired artwork.

The collection includes:

  • Balefire Dragon
  • Big Score
  • Young Pyromancer
  • Sword of Truth and Justice
  • Elemental Token

Each selection contributes to the overall adventure theme, from Young Pyromancer and their Elemental companion to the powerful sword and the intimidating Balefire Dragon. The collection will be available in both traditional non-foil and foil versions, giving collectors the option to choose their preferred finish.

Wizards of the Coast Continues Its Partnership With Extra Life

While the retro gaming theme is certainly one of the biggest attractions, the charitable partnership behind Rise of the Polygons | Extra Life 2026 is equally important. For more than a decade, Wizards of the Coast has partnered with Extra Life to raise money for children’s hospitals through gaming and community-driven fundraising efforts.

Founded in 2008, Extra Life brings gamers together to support Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, allowing communities to turn their passion for gaming into meaningful charitable contributions. For this particular Secret Lair, 50% of each purchase price will support Extra Life and Seattle Children’s Hospital. According to the announcement, donations raised through the Extra Life and Secret Lair partnership will directly support mental and behavioral health care at Seattle Children’s.

It’s another example of how gaming communities can come together to support an important cause while celebrating the hobbies they enjoy.

Rise of the Polygons Pricing and Release Date

Players interested in picking up Rise of the Polygons | Extra Life 2026 won’t have to wait much longer. The collection will officially go on sale on November 16, 2026, at 9 a.m. PT, with the sale running until November 30 at 1 a.m. PT.

A Nostalgic Secret Lair Supporting a Great Cause

Magic: The Gathering has released plenty of creative Secret Lair collections over the years, but Rise of the Polygons | Extra Life 2026 offers an appealing combination of retro gaming nostalgia and charitable support. The low-polygon artwork captures the charm of an earlier era of video games, while the selection of cards tells a small fantasy adventure through its visuals.

More importantly, the collection gives players and collectors another opportunity to support the work being done at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Whether you’re a longtime Magic player, a fan of classic 64-bit adventures, or simply interested in supporting Extra Life, Rise of the Polygons | Extra Life 2026 is worth checking out when it launches on November 16.
