With the release of the latest Demeo adventure The Curse of the Serpent Lord, we get a whole new adventure to add to an already stellar game. Curse of the Serpent Lord brings the heat in this latest desert adventure. I’m here to give you first impressions and see if LOGNET and the Iron Lords could handle the heat!
New Character Joins And One Gets Update
Demeo Curse of the Serpent Lord brings a new friend into the fray, Oana the Warlock. When playing as Oana, you get to experience a summoner-style character. She has her companion Cana, who is an Astral Cat, that becomes powerful over time. When using the warlock’s skills, players control Cana and order it to travel far distances and deliver potentially lethal blows. Lord Addict of Iron Lords Podcast was very good in our group with Oana and Cana. We were able to combine our other party members’ abilities with the warlock to take out large numbers of enemies, including the big bad boss baddies.
It seems like the developers put a lot of work into her model and how her and Cana’s abilities can affect the entire adventure. Not only did Oana join the fight, but we also got an update on the Sorcerer as well. I always play as the sorcerer and let me tell you this latest update is great. The sorcerer received a new class ability called Overcharge. This imbues him with some electricity allowing him to deal some electric blows. Not only that but when overcharged the Zap ability changes into Lightning Bolt which also stuns enemies, setting up allies to deal damage. These changes are definitely welcomed as many said they felt the sorcerer was underpowered. But in my experience, just takes some killer strategies.
New Features
We got a bevy of new features with this latest Demeo adventure. One of the most useful was having a potion stand. The stand proved pivotal during a testing time in our playthrough. I got an Adamant Potion from that stand which played a factor later on when I was surrounded by enemies including a big spider. Being invulnerable for three turns felt great. Even a few potions debuted for the first time.
Another new feature was the new merchants. You find them randomly at points of interest and they allow you to trade in rare items you find for cards. The powerful cards will help you trudge through the onslaught of Iztir forces.
Curse of the Serpent Lord is definitely not for people with little amounts of time unless you plan to save progress. The added feature of corruption adds a whole new layer of difficulty. It is going to require your party and you to take your time and play wisely. Seeing this environmental hazard spread while corrupting your allies’ minds makes it very interesting and nerve-wracking at the same time. I can’t tell you how many times I accidentally stepped on a corrupted tile or got corrupted by an enemy sorcerer and then attacked Lord Cognito, a party member. We also experienced the mysterious Sand piles throughout the adventure that can either lead to fortune or hidden enemies.
The Adventure Begins
As said above, The Curse of the Serpent Lord adds a new layer of difficulty which was very fun for us as we discovered these new things. We got to experience new ability cards, and features, as well as new vicious enemies with new abilities as well. As my group traveled through the first area we ran into our first struggle as we uncovered the corruption spread. This led to me being attacked by Cana and my attacking allies as well. It added a lot to the already impressive new enemies as you see in the image above. It is imperative to destroy the corruption cores to keep you and your allies safe from a poisoned mind.
You could try standing behind cover and occasionally reaching out and attacking. But enemies have to ability to leap. This means most of the time you are never truly safe hiding for long. Enemies swarmed us over and over which made us think if we are ever going to make it out of here. Oana came in clutch here a few times being able to travel long distances to attack enemies and help provide a distraction. We were also able to get a bunch of gold here in the first area as the fighting continued. Also were very fortunate to find some good sand piles and get even more gold. With excellent teamwork, we took out the bosses, got the key, and moved on to the second area.
The Demeo Adventure Continues
Before we ventured into the second area of Demeo Curse of the Serpent Lord, we had to go shopping for some crucial items. Here we were able to see some of the new potions and cards which add a refresh to the old cards. Potions that increase magic strength, potions that let you take extra actions for three turns, as well as a couple of other good cards. Going into this new adventure, you get to experience a huge area with multiple tiered levels of terrain. This can add excellent vantage points in certain situations which will prove very useful. You get to see the Merchant and Potion stand. Multiple enemies continue to be summoned or pour down the stairs into the fray as we you continue to slaughter them and work our way around the map.
The new enemies here included shockwave-summing Brutes, turret-constructing followers of Iztir, the rare Jeweled Scarabs which is what we traded into the merchant after killing them, to even burrowing Ronth Scorpions. Our party ran into a bunch of scorpions in this area in the random sand piles. So instead of gold, we get scorpions and poison. We had an ally go down a few times in this area but managed to stay alive, get the key, and make it to the next area safely.
The Verdict
Now, I’m sure you are wondering what about the third stage of the new Demeo adventure? We decided not to spoil that part for you, but instead show you an image and tell you we struggled in the first two areas. So when it comes to the third area, just know it provides a whole new level of difficulty that your beginner adventurers aren’t ready for. The multiple enemies and bosses might leave you and your party quaking in their boots. I definitely recommend playing with your friends so you can easily cooperate and help each other out.
When experiencing Demeo’s latest adventure Lord Cognito, Lord Addict, Lord Snalydo, and I had a great time. With each adventure, the bar has been raised in amazing ways. From the new features, new enemies, and new cards, Resolution Games continue to build upon a great game. Everything was smooth and fluid with the visuals being absolutely amazing. Oana and Cana were great additions to an already stellar of characters. I would recommend Demeo and The Curse of the Serpent Lord to everyone out there and I will for sure be jumping back in!
