Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent Has Launched

Just recently, the global version of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent has surprise-released. You can go to your app store on iOS and Android and download the game. Just be aware that you will need to uninstall the game on your phone if it is still installed. Then re-download the current version.

What is Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent?

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is a free-to-play mobile “Gacha” game. This is the prequel to the hit JRPG on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PC platforms. The idea behind the game is simple yet genuine. To take the hard-core JRPG experience the original game provided. Then put it on phones so you can enjoy it for free on the go!

However, the catch is that the game will not let you gather your party by traditional JRPG means. Instead, you will have to engage with a loot-box mechanic to acquire members for your party. The game launched in closed beta earlier this year and LOGNET has an impressions article that breaks down what we could talk about due to restrictions of coverage. But the game uses a lot of the amazing soundtracks from Octopath Traveler. As well as having a similar combat system with a few tweaks. Including the ability to use eight party members instead of four.

Sadly the system for the Gacha mechanic was disabled during the closed beta so I can not detail how it functions, but be wary and spend wisely, or not at all. The game takes place a long time before Octopath Traveler and has a simple story revolving three antagonists that align with three different attributes. Power, Fame, and Wealth. You will learn about these characters, travel across the game world at your leisure, and partake in exclusive game events. Such as events involving characters from NieR: Automata and Triangle Strategy if and when they are available.
