Gravity Well Is The New AAA Studio From The Founders Of Respawn

It is not every day that a new AAA studio is announced, especially given the current state of the economy. However, it appears that a new studio simply called Gravity Well from the founders of Respawn Entertainment is looking to create waves.

Gravity Well is a brand new AAA studio from two of the founders of Respawn Entertainment. Drew Mccoy was a key producer on such titles as Titanfall, Titanfall 2, and was the executive producer on Apex Legends. While Jon Shiring was a wizard behind the scenes in terms of online net code and services. With his work on Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, Titanfall, and Apex Legends. There is no doubt they will make more than capable studio leads with their years of industry experience.

The Studios Goals

As per information on their official website, they are looking to create a team of 80 to 85 people. With a goal to innovate AAA gaming in new and creative ways.

“We aren’t satisfied with the low level of creative risk that gets project funding these days. We want to explore bold new ideas exclusively for next-gen hardware and PCs.”

They have already begun hiring to fill job roles on the team starting with primary roles such as animation, graphics, QA manager, and more. The team is looking to focus heavily on starting and continuing to work remotely, as per a statement from Jon Shiring.

“Given the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re starting the studio for remote work from the very start. Since one of the core values of Gravity Well is increased diversity, we’re excited about not being hamstrung by relocation or work visa issues. We want to hire the best talent in the industry, regardless of where you live.”

While it is to soon to tell what the future may hold for Gravity Well. In our current economic situation, it is amazing to see developers willing to jump out and take such a risk. Here is hoping it is a risk that pays off.
