Primogem Basics
Primogems are a special kind of in-game currency that you will earn and spend very often. They can also be exchanged for Genesis Crystals, which can only be purchased with real money.
Go to the game’s shop by opening the pause menu and clicking the shop icon.
This is where you exchange your hard-earned Primogems for Acquaint Fates and Intertwined Fates. Both are what you need to pull from the game’s character and weapon banners. Acquaint Fates and Intertwined Fates can be bought for 160 Primogems.

How To Farm Primogems
Like any great game, the balance between work and being rewarded is the wheel that needs to keep on turning. Genshin Impact does this pretty well with its RPG mechanics and earning Primogems. Nearly every activity in the game gives Primogems in increments of 5, 10 or more. The greater the achievement, the better the reward.
Discovering new landmarks, completing in-game achievements, logging into the game every day, and more can net you Primogems. These activities give experience points, materials and Mara as well, so you’ll always have more than one reason to do something. Thankfully, the game encourages the player to play the game rather than just head to its shop to spend money. There are a lot of things to do in Genshin Impact, so take advantage of anything that is timed to make sure you do not miss out.
To Save or Not To Save?
Here is every impulse-buyer’s dilemma: Should I save my Primogems or spend them? There is no wrong answer here. However, given that the game just released, it is a good idea to spend your Primogems to get Acquaint Fates and Intertwined Fates. Even if pulling from banners is playing a game of chance, you will eventually want to get better weapons and characters. 4-star and 5-star characters and weapons can only benefit you, after all.
Waiting on the next round of banners is not a bad idea either since it might have a character you really want. Just remember that Genshin Impact‘s mechanics revolve around elemental synergy. Take advantage of the party bonuses for having two of the same elements in a group. If you happen to pull a character you already have, they’ll get turned into materials needed to enhance that character. So in a sense, your Primogems are not going to waste even if you end up getting duplicates.

You also have every right to spend real-world money on Genesis Crystals to get more Primogems. But with so many options to earn what you need, and having it actually be fun, you really don’t need to.
