Monster Hunter Has a Disappointing First Weekend
Monster Hunter was released in theaters this weekend. The movie was barely able to take the top spot from The Croods: A New Age.
Monster Hunter was pushed up from December 25th to this weekend. It looked like the movie would be making plenty of money this weekend. The film grossed an estimated $2.2 million in its opening weekend. This film now has grossed $7 million worldwide. Croods: A New Age was able to stay right behind in second place. It grossed $2 million this weekend, bringing the worldwide total to $84.5 million. Fatale was also released this weekend. It stopped Elf from taking the third spot at the box office. It was able to gross $365,000.
Even though Tenet is available to watch at home the movie did make some money. It grossed an estimated $95,000 in 300 theaters. Right now this movie sits at $362.1 million at the worldwide box office. Since no new movies are coming out this year, we have the joy of rewatching some classics. A rerelease of The Polar Express was able to gross $231,000. 2018’s The Grinch was able to gross $115,00 in 300 theaters, it was recently taken off Netflix. The Muppet Christmas Carol was also one of the holiday movies available to watch. It was set up in 750 theaters and only grossed $92,000. I’m disappointed that this movie didn’t make more. It is a true holiday classic from when I was younger; I still have the VHS laying around.
Weekend Top Three
3. Fatale $925,000
2. The Croods: A New Age $2 million
1. Monster Hunter $2.2 million
Wonder Woman 1984 will be releasing this Friday in theaters and on HBO Max. The movie actually was already released in the foreign market. It currently sits at an estimated $38.5 million worldwide. Expect that number to almost double after this weekend. Actually, that number might not go up much. 98% of my state(California) is in a stay at home order. Many fans will be watching it on HBO Max.
