We had the opportunity to sit down for an interview with Jason Ronald, the Director of Program Management Team Xbox earlier this week. We discussed the state of Xbox backward compatibility, FPS boost, and much more.
On the Topic of FPS Boost
The first thing that we do is we really take a look and say what games do we think can benefit from this technique. As we have shared previously, this technique will not work on every game. A lot of it really hinges on how the original engine works or how the original game was written. And through all these hundreds of thousands of hours of testing we’ve really identified different trends and different opportunities. […] Once we feel confident we are able to do right by the original creative intent, the original vision of the creator that’s actually when we reach out to the publisher.
Jason Ronald On Improving BC Games
Once we understand can we even do this at all technically then the conversation is how many games can we actually apply this technique to. Because ultimately our goal is to bring asmany games forwards as we can and improve as many games as we can. I think Auto HDR is a great example of that where the vast majority of the catalogue can all receive the benefit.
