Steam Deck Launching February 25th
Today Valve announced their new SteamOS powered handheld, Steam Deck will be launching on February 25th. Starting then, verified Steam users with orders already placed will receive invites to queue for purchase. Anyone who receives an email will have 72 hours to respond or lose their place in line. Valve expects the first batch of retail units to ship on February 28th.
For anyone that has not already placed a pre-order for a Steam Deck, all three models are expected to ship after June 2022. There are 64 GB eMMC, 256 NNMe SSD, and 512 NCMe SSD models still up for pre-order today if you are willing to wait. The expectation is, canceled orders could get you moved into the early summer queue.
The Steam Deck is Valve’s hope to give a PC-centric platform to both consumers and developers favoring the portability of the Nintendo Switch. The idea is for a more powerful unit to give nearly full access to your Steam library on the go. While the portable unit will still be a PC that can be modified to run anything, it will be powered by SteamOS, and will require games that are compatible with Valves Operating System. Valve has begun the Deck Verified program to denote compatible games.
