Top Gun: Maverick and Elvis Fight for the Top Spot
This past weekend we witnessed the release of two movies looking to take the top spot. It looked like the dinosaurs would have no trouble staying on top. But this weekend Top Gun: Maverick was able to top the box office and cross that billion-dollar mark.
At the time I wrote this article only $176 is the difference between the top two movies. These numbers are all an estimate and this could change tomorrow Yet, right now Top Gun: Maverick was able to gross $30,500,176 million at the box office. Elvis came in second with $30,500,000. With this added money Maverick was able to cross into Marvel money territory. Not many movies outside of that Marvel Juggernaught hit that billion mark. It does happen, just not that often.
Elvis is currently sitting at $50 million worldwide as it should have no problem staying in the top three for the next few weeks. Expect this movie to gross over $250 million before it leaves theaters. Lightyear had dropped down to number five as it grossed $17 million this weekend. One thing that we haven’t seen in the last couple of years is a strong number of movies in the top five that have been grossing over ten million. It just shows that theaters are starting to bounce back after the pandemic brought them to their knees.
The Black Phone was able to get into the top four with an estimated gross of $23.3 million. Jurassic World: Dominion is sitting at number three with $26.4 million as it almost hits $800 million worldwide.
Weekend Top Three
3. Jurassic World: Dominion $26.4 million
2. Elvis $30,500,000 million

Next weekend look for Mr. Malcom’s List and Minions: The Rise of Gru as they are both released in a wide number of theaters. After that look for Thor: Love and Thunder to be released on July 8th. We’re in that prime time for Summer movies. It has been a long time since viewers have had some good movies to pick from.
