KOTOR Remake May Have Just Switched Developers

Knights Of The Old Republic by Bioware has often been considered one of the best Western RPGs of all time by many gamers. This is one of the reasons that when it was revealed that there would be a remake of the classic RPG, many fans became incredibly excited. That was until a few weeks ago thanks to a report by Jason Schreier, we learned that there was trouble brewing internally within the studio Aspyr who was helming the project. Thanks to a supposed vertical slice of the game were not well received which led to the dismissal of a handful of leadership within the studio. It was speculated that it would be a long time before we would see this remake. However, it appears that Aspyr may have handed the project off to another studio within its parent company Embracer Group.

In a financial report from Embracer group, it was revealed that one of their AAA titles had been shifted internally to a different studio within the group.

“One of the Group’s AAA projects has transitioned to another studio within the Group. This was done to ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title. We are not expecting any material delays for the title based on this transition.”

It seems incredibly likely that this project is KOTOR as this announcement lines up almost perfectly with the reports surrounding Aspyr and the remake project. If the reports are true I find it hard to believe that there won’t be any delays in relation to this project. Considering the vagueness of this statement within the financial report, it is likely that a delay is inevitable. Especially since in the original report, the project was delayed indefinitely. It is likely a long time before we see the KOTOR remake at this point. Hopefully, when it reemerges it will be everything that fans want it to be.
