In an industry where growth in the console space is practically stunted. Most developers are setting their eyes on the growing PC market and exploring their options in the mobile space. Developers of the critically acclaimed Stellar Blade have announced their next big title is going to PC. While in a recent job listing from Sony Interactive Entertainment. It seems as though PlayStation will be making more moves into the mobile market. With what seems like a traditional model that most mobile games have. Here is everything we know so far from a recent job listing!
Details on the Latest Job Listing from PlayStation
In a recent report from Tweaktown, they discovered a job listing that stated the following:
“PlayStation Studios Mobile is seeking an experienced software engineer to design PlayStation’s platform for developing, publishing, and operating free-to-play mobile games. An individual in this role will spearhead the design and implementation of this platform; work in partnership with internal teams to connect mobile games to PlayStation services; and ensure that all mobile games meet PlayStation’s quality standards.”
This would indicate that PlayStation is ready to hit the ground running with games being worked on in the background. What these titles are, and what type of gameplay loops you can expect has yet to be shown. But operating multiple free-to-play titles can be a slippery slope. They can either be higher fidelity experiences that do not last very like Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier. That looked impressive but ceased operations only a little over a year into its life span. Or go a more lower fidelity route that is more sustainable. Like Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent which launched nearly four years ago and is still going strong.
