Enter the Dragon – Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Game Pass
Following the Bandicoot’s launch into Xbox Game Pass over the summer, his fire-breathing friend finally joins the service. In a surprise shadow drop on the service, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy is out now on Game Pass Standard, Ultimate, and PC tiers.
Gem Horder – Spyro Reignited Trilogy On Game Pass
The Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which contains the original PS1 trilogy of legendary platformers, came out on modern platforms a few years ago. Originally released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with PC and Switch versions coming out later, the three games got HD maker-overs.
Like the Crash N-Sane Trilogy, Spyro’s adventures got updated visuals, re-done animated cut-scenes, and slight quality-of-life additions.
Something worth noting though, is the differences in performance across various platforms. Originally, Spyro Reignited Trilogy was released with only 30FPS support, and the games never got updated for the PS5 or Series X/S. Only PC players can enjoy 60FPS for these platformers.
Xbox Series X and Xbox One X players can enjoy 1400p support, thanks to the One X Enhancements that were added to the game around its launch.
What’s Next for ABK Games on Game Pass?
It’s obvious with the slow roll-out of ABK titles like this and Crash N. Sane Trilogy that Microsoft is staggering out the remaining library of Activision and Blizzard titles for the Game Pass service.
With Tony Hawk Pro-Skater 1&2 being added to the Xbox PC app last year, similar to how Spyro got added to it, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the next game joining the Game Pass library in the future.
Part of me is saddened at the lack of legacy games from ABK’s library not coming to the Xbox ecosystem. Activision owns the rights to other Crash and Spyro games, like Wrath of Cortex, A Heroes Tale, Crash Twinsanity, and the entire Legend of Spyro series. While none of those games are perfect experiences, they are part of the Crash and Spyro history.
I have accepted that the ABK deal was largely for Call of Duty and King’s immense mobile market with Candy Crush, but I hope that the ‘lesser’ games in ABK’s library will resurface.
Closing Thoughts
While many know me as Lord Sonic, I love 3D platformers in general. I put a lot of time into the Spyro and Crash games that Activision released (with too many to account in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled on PS4), so seeing these games get another lease on life makes me happy.
I hope everyone joins the purple dragon saving dragons, collecting gems, and flaming sheep like many of us did back on the PlayStation 1. Will you dive into this remade trilogy of games? Let us know in the comments below!
