Square Enix showed off a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation during Gamescom Opening Night Live. It gives us another look at the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. The game launches in Spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
I have a confession to make here. I bought the collector’s editions of both Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PlayStation, and I still haven’t played them. Somehow, I even own both games on Steam. It’s not because I don’t want to play them. These games are just long, and every time one came out, I was already in the middle of something else.
So here we are, writing about the final game, and I still haven’t played the first two.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Goes Big for the Finale
Even without that history, the new trailer got my attention. Final Fantasy VII Revelation looks gorgeous. Everything looked incredibly crisp and detailed, but what stood out to me was the contrast between the environments and the massive Weapons. There’s something visually different about them that makes them stand out against the rest of the world.
The Weapons are returning as major battles, with some appearing as extremely difficult endgame encounters inspired by the original Final Fantasy VII. The trailer also showed the new Typhon summon, Chocobo traversal, grappling hooks, parachuting, and the ability to explore the planet aboard the Highwind.
Square Enix also revealed FITS, a new outfit system that gives characters additional abilities and roles inspired by classic Final Fantasy jobs.
I’m still planning to play the original Final Fantasy VII before diving into the remake trilogy. But strangely enough, seeing Revelation might finally be the thing that gets me moving.
Spring 2027 gives me, and anyone else who somehow missed the zeitgeist around these games, several months to catch up. Considering how good this trailer looked, maybe it’s finally time.
