What Is Secret Lair: Corn Maze Superdrop?

Wizards of the Coast has revealed its next Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair collection, and this one brings together everything from Labyrinth and KPop Demon Hunters to Marvel Zombies and some very relaxed Treefolk. Secret Lair: Corn Maze Superdrop launches on October 12 at 9 a.m. PT and features eight limited drops. Each collection will be available in traditional foil for $39.99 or non-foil for $29.99 while supplies last.

Secret Lair: Corn Maze Superdrop Features Eight Drops

The Corn Maze Superdrop continues Secret Lair’s tradition of combining outside collaborations with original Magic: The Gathering artwork and artist-focused collections.

Three of the eight drops are dedicated entirely to Jim Henson’s Labyrinth, while KPop Demon Hunters and Marvel Zombies receive their own collections. The remaining drops explore Mirrodin’s artifact lands, Treefolk, and the work of artist Veronique Meignaud.

Here is everything included in the upcoming Superdrop.

Secret Lair x Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Should You Need Us

The first of three Labyrinth drops focuses on Sarah and the companions she encounters throughout her journey.

Sarah appears through a reskinned Jodah, the Unifier, while characters including Ludo, Hoggle, The Wiseman, The Worm, and Sir Didymus are represented by existing Magic cards.

The artwork for Sarah, Champion to the Lost also connects with Jareth, Goblin King from the separate Fear Me, Love Me drop, creating a larger scene when the two cards are placed together.

The drop includes:

  • Jodah, the Unifier as “Sarah, Champion to the Lost”
  • Kogla, the Titan Ape as “Ludo, Rock Caller”
  • Shigeki, Jukai Visionary as “The Wiseman, Eccentric Oracle”
  • Wort, Boggart Auntie as “Hoggle, Heart in Conflict”
  • Kami of the Crescent Moon as “The Worm, Sagely Guide”
  • Lu Xun, Scholar General as “Sir Didymus, Rider of Ambrosius” // “Sir Didymus, Faithful Companion”

Secret Lair x Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Fear Me, Love Me

Of course, you cannot have Labyrinth without Jareth. Fear Me, Love Me puts the Goblin King at the center of the collection, with Muxus, Goblin Grandee transformed into Jareth, Goblin King.

Several memorable moments from the film also receive Magic interpretations, including the kidnapping of Toby and Jareth’s infamous gifts.

The drop includes:

  • Muxus, Goblin Grandee as “Jareth, Goblin King”
  • Boggart Shenanigans as “Call Out the Goblins!”
  • Dance with Calamity as “Dance with Goblins”
  • Goblin Rabblemaster as “Goblin Cradle-Thieves”
  • Claim the Firstborn as “The Kidnapping of Toby”
  • Trinisphere as “I’ve Brought You a Gift”

Secret Lair x Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Through the Labyrinth

The final Labyrinth collection shifts its attention from the characters to Sarah’s journey through the maze itself.

Several of the movie’s memorable locations and encounters are represented, including the Fireys, the Shaft of Hands, the Cleaners, and the confusing doors Sarah encounters during her adventure.

The drop includes:

  • Timely Ward as “Rescue in the 13th Hour”
  • Chronomantic Escape as “Under Jareth’s Spell”
  • Delayed Blast Fireball as “Frenzy of the Fireys”
  • Tempt with Discovery as “The Goblin King’s Offer”
  • Rogue’s Passage as “Shaft of Hands”
  • Planar Temporal Gateway as “Doors of Indecision”
  • Leveler as “The Cleaners Leveler”

Secret Lair x KPop Demon Hunters: How It’s Done

KPop Demon Hunters is also making its way into Magic: The Gathering. The collection draws from the film’s combination of music, friendship, supernatural battles, and its cast of demon-fighting pop stars.

Wizards also teased that this may not be the last appearance from HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys in Secret Lair. Unlike several of the other collections in the Superdrop, the announced card list retains the original Magic card names.

The drop includes:

  • Dawn’s Truce
  • Unbreakable Formation
  • Freed from the Real
  • Swan Song
  • Demonic Counsel
  • Tempt with Immortality
  • Underworld Breach

Secret Lair x Marvel: Zombies

Marvel returns to Secret Lair, but things have gone considerably worse for its heroes this time around. Secret Lair x Marvel: Zombies features undead versions of several recognizable Marvel characters, including Captain America, Scarlet Witch, Thor, and Giant-Man.

The drop includes:

  • Unstoppable Slasher
  • Zombie Apocalypse
  • Vogar, Necropolis Tyrant as “Zombie Giant-Man”
  • God-Eternal Bontu as “Zombie Thor”
  • Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver as “Zombie Captain America”
  • Varina, Lich Queen as “Zombie Scarlet Witch”

Wizards also highlighted Wolverine among the characters appearing in the collection’s artwork.

Artist Series: Veronique Meignaud

Artist Veronique Meignaud brings a much darker aesthetic to the Corn Maze Superdrop. This mono-black collection revolves around sacrifice and transformation, with Meignaud’s distinctive artwork appearing across four cards.

The drop includes:

  • Bloodsoaked Champion
  • Voldaren Pariah // Abolisher of Bloodlines
  • Ashnod’s Altar
  • Cabal Stronghold

Manufactured Grounds by See Machine

Manufactured Grounds returns to one of Magic: The Gathering’s most recognizable planes with new interpretations of Mirrodin’s artifact lands. See Machine reimagines the five original artifact lands with a stark industrial art style built around constructed environments and heavy contrast.

The drop includes:

  • Ancient Den
  • Seat of the Synod
  • Vault of Whispers
  • Great Furnace
  • Tree of Tales

Considering the history and continued Commander usefulness of the artifact lands, this may be an especially interesting collection for players who enjoy alternative treatments of established Magic staples.

Peace, Love, & Treefolk

Things get considerably more colorful with Peace, Love, & Treefolk. Artist Ashley Dreyfus brings a bright style inspired by 1970s sticker books and contemporary pop art to five Treefolk cards. The collection also features custom frames designed around its colorful aesthetic.

The drop includes:

  • Dauntless Dourbark
  • Leaf-Crowned Elder
  • Timber Protector
  • Treefolk Harbinger
  • Doran, the Siege Tower

Despite the relaxed presentation, there are some familiar pieces here for anyone who has experimented with Treefolk-focused decks over the years.

Every collection in Secret Lair: Corn Maze Superdrop will have two versions available. Traditional Foil Editions will cost $39.99, while Non-Foil Editions will cost $29.99.

Wizards of the Coast is also offering an exclusive promotional card tied to the Superdrop. Customers will receive a foil Maze of Ith reskinned as “The Labyrinth” for every $199 spent, while supplies last. The promo is particularly fitting considering the three Labyrinth collections included in the Superdrop.

When Does Secret Lair: Corn Maze Superdrop Release?

Secret Lair: Corn Maze Superdrop goes on sale on October 12 at 9 a.m. PT. All eight drops will be available in limited quantities while supplies last through the official Secret Lair storefront.

Between three separate Labyrinth collections, KPop Demon Hunters, Marvel Zombies, new versions of Mirrodin’s artifact lands, and two very different artist-focused drops, the Corn Maze Superdrop covers a lot of ground.

Secret Lair continues to be one of the more divisive parts of modern Magic: The Gathering, especially with the sheer number of releases players have to keep up with. Still, as with previous Superdrops, having such dramatically different themes means players can focus on the collections that appeal to them rather than feeling like every drop is meant for everyone.
