It did not take long for the insane weekend of retro collecting to get even more intense. One night after a copy of The Legend of Zelda broke records it has been topped. Super Mario 64 is now the top-selling game of all time. Over on Heritage Auctions, this morning bids closed at $1,560,000.
The copy of Super Mario 64 is 9.8 WATA graded. The grading denotes an A++ first part seal, a pixelated K-A ESRB rating, and 78% recycled fiber for the packing. The big jump in value will be a shock to some collectors. Prices are going up however, the same exact game with a 9.4 grade just sold for $38,400 back in January. Things certainly are changing and changing quickly with game collecting.
While this sale of Super Mario 64 is an incredible change in the market, it will be interesting to see how things evolve. Is this the new market for game collecting? Will prices continue to go up? After the tremendous weekend over at Heritage Auctions will this bring up the prices of other games?

Love how I read your article saying Karl Jobst was being unfair to Wata games. I looked back at your articles, suspecting you might have been reporting on these ‘historic’ sales. Lo and behold you did. Biased. I don’t know how you can, in good faith, criticize Karl when this is the kind of ‘reporting’ you do.
