Xbox Game Studios has grown massively over the past few years. While acquisitions have certainly slowed in comparison for the Xbox brand then in prior years. That does not mean they are not growing. With many of their acquired studios focusing on growing and expanding into working on multiple projects. As we have seen with studios like Ninja Theory and Obsidian who are all working on a variety of projects. Xbox has made the message clear that they want to make sure their studios have the proper tools so that they can creatively thrive in a well-supported environment. This support seems to be expanding to State Of Decay developers Undead Labs as well.
Undead Labs Continues To Grow For State Of Decay 3
As originally uncovered by well-known Xbox insider Klobrille, it appears that Undead Labs has opened a new studio to help support the development of State of Decay 3. This information was discovered in a Linkedin bio from Simon Sherr a long-time Animation Director for EA who has recently joined the Undead Labs team. In his official job listing, it details a new support studio that is based in Florida.
“Developing a new Microsoft studio under Undead Labs in Orlando Fl, Directing animation and Animation Technology in UE5 for Microsoft XGS Undead Labs’ “State of Decay 3” and fostering cross-studio animation technology collaboration and animation technology initiatives across XGS.”
An interesting tidbit from this job listing is that it also indicates that State of Decay 3 will be running on Unreal Engine 5. This isn’t the first job listing that has pointed to the third installment of State of Decay running on the latest version of Unreal. This likely indicates that State of Decay 3 will be a next-generation only title, it will be interesting to see what Undead Labs will be able to do with the latest engine. We are certainly watching the growth of this studio as well as the future of their survival franchise with interest. Hopefully, we will hear more about the upcoming zombie survival title this year.
