Back at the end of November last year, “Lua’s Prey” was added to Warframe. It had some build-up with a fantastic cinematic trailer but only gave a couple of meaningful additions overall. Such as the Conjunction Survival game mode and the silent killer frame, Voruna. But seeing as there was a cinematic trailer. This lead me to believe this update would have been more than what it was, killing my appreciation for what was a pretty good update to the game.
On the flip side of this, however, “Citrines Last Wish” was a very well-marketed update. That in many forms was far superior to Lua’s Prey. Despite the overall update having the same offerings in a way. But how does this update fare overall?
Mirror Defense
The key addition in Citrines Last Wish was the newest game mode “Mirror Defense”. In this mode, you have two different defense targets to keep alive. But you do not have to defend both at the same time. Rather, you defend one for a few minutes, then go to the other one and rinse and repeat the process for as long as you can handle. Along the way, you will also be told a story about two characters, Rania and Belric. Encased in crystal a long time ago by their guardian warframe, it is tragic and adds to the narrative of the game. In fact, the room that separates the crystals is void torn and you can sometimes see the Orowyrm Lodun flying around which is great!
The catch here is the little mini-game of collecting crystals that once you collect enough scattered throughout each zone, you give the defense target an over shield, defensive turret, and currency to turn in at Otak for rewards.
You will always get five of this currency alternating between separate red and blue crystal shards for every fifty crystals you collect in the mission. With a guaranteed ten of both when you complete one round of defense for each target. Alongside the mission rewards. Suffice it to say, the mission type is a breath of fresh air and very rewarding. Since you can always grind for more and more of the currency to buy stuff from Otak. While also getting the chance to get parts of Citrine and her weapons from the mission.
Overall, this mission type is absolutely fantastic. I had so much fun despite spending an unhealthy amount of time in it. If the currencies did not exist, this mission type would get frustrating very quickly. But what are the rewards you can get from this mission and Otak?
The Spoils of Citrines Last Wish in Warframe
Citrines Last Wish came with Citrine the newest defensive tank and support warframe. She can pretty much do it all, defend places, and heal herself and her allies naturally. Grant herself and her allies a fantastically strong damage reduction and keep herself fed with energy. She feels like Trinity on steroids and her weapons are both hit and miss. The hit is Corufell the melee weapon. It is a two-handed scythe that can function as a gun blade. However, instead of a shotgun spread it is an energy bolt that gets shot out with a heavy attack.
It feels great and deals a fantastic amount of damage with fast firing if you use it with Citrine. The same cannot be said for Steflos, the shotgun. Steflos is an infinitely piercing Arca Plasmor in theory. But the normal range for each shot is extremely short and requires you to use it close to enemies to get the maximum distance out of each shot. It is pretty good, but nothing to write home about.
You can get Citrine, Steflos, and Corufell parts from Mirror Defense if you are lucky enough, or turn in the currency earned in the missions at Otak to get what you are missing. He also has four new Arcanes that are not that great, as the Double Back arcane sounded great until it was discovered you needed to use all of the listed methods of triggering the arcane in tandem and not just one over and over. Arcane Steadfast is the only Arcane I kind of like since it can sometimes feel like a random Protea passive trigger. Where you can sometimes reduce the cost of abilities to 0 by using any abilities. It is great but too situational.
Overall Thoughts on Citrines Last Wish
Citrine’s Last Wish is a fantastic little update for Warframe. Citrine is great, and Corufell is good but Steflos I feel is lacking. The new arcanes are pretty underwhelming. But the new warframe augments are great. Like the Mesmer skin augment for Revenant that shares stacks of Mesmer skin which is beyond broken. As well as Yareli’s new Merulina augment that heals it with each kill of Sea Snare captured enemies and grants Yareli a triple reload speed buff.
The Rhino Deathwatch skin also got added to the game and it is sure to trigger some phobias in people. When the community says “Bugframe” this is not what most envisioned. If you want to instantly access all of the new stuff if you are not a fan of the game mode or the grind for Citrine, her weapons, and her alternate helmet. As well as an exclusive decoration for your Orbiter or Dormizone. The supporter pack is very cheap and very worth it. Unlike the new Drifter face paints.
I assumed that some of the face paints for the Drifter would be free like some of the hairstyles are. But they are not which is a shame as even one or two basic-looking free face paints could make a new player’s day after they finish The New War.
But overall, I recommend jumping back in for this update. It’s fun and Citrine is shaping up to be the best warframe Digital Extremes has made in a while. Citrines Last Wish is available for free on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4|5.
