PlayStation Showcase Safe And Wild Predictions

To say that PlayStation fans are excited about today’s games showcase is an understatement. While we have had several State Of Plays, it has been a long time since PlayStation has done a proper blowout showcase. To say expectations and rumors are running rampant is frankly an understatement. From the believable to the utterly insane it feels like every “Insider” is trying to take a shot in the dark in what PlayStation will reveal. Now I will take this time to take my very own shots in the dark. From games we will definitely see, to games I would sacrifice my console in order to see revealed. Here my predictions for some of the games we might see at today’s PlayStation Showcase.

Keep in mind there will be plenty of surprises and new announcements that will not be in this article. As I am predicting based on reported information. Not off any inside information that could be learned from relationships with a publisher or developer. Now onwards!

The Safe Bets To See At The PlayStation Showcase

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 will be the golden showcase piece for this upcoming PlayStation Showcase. Final Fantasy XVI is the big Summer PS5 game without a doubt. But the Fall/Holiday season will belong to Spider-Man 2 when it comes to PlayStation’s marketing power. I expect we will see a good chunk of gameplay at the showcase, maybe even some new powers or how Peter and Miles will work in unison. There will also definitely be a heavy focus on the narrative ahead for this title. The first game ended on a cliffhanger in regard to several villains that we might see in the sequel.

I hope that Insomniac does a good job of teasing these villains without showing too much of them in action at the showcase. We will also likely finally learn the actual release date for this title, I would not be surprised if it lands early in mid-September. Alongside a Spidey-themed Dualsense controller, maybe even a limited edition Spidey-themed PS5? A fan can always dream I suppose.

The Last Of Us Factions

Factions Reveal Image

The Last Of Us Factions is truly one of PlayStation’s upcoming titles that I am most interested in. After it was revealed that the multiplayer for The Last Of Us Part 2 had been spun off into its own project. I was genuinely intrigued, The world of The Last Of Us is ripe for a variety of different types of multiplayer-focused game modes. With extraction shooters being such a hit from such heavy hitters as Escape From Tarkov, Hunt: The Showdown, and Call Of Duty’s own DMZ mode. Maybe even a Division style game where you help a group of survivors fight back against clickers and bandits. As a massive multiplayer shooter fan, I am very interested to see which direction Naughty Dog intends to take Factions.

Naughty Dog has teased that they would have more information to share this Summer, and it’s hard to think that we won’t see something from Naughty Dog. With all of the hype built up by the well-received The Last Of Us HBO show, now would be the perfect time for PlayStation to show off the new multiplayer-focused game. I do not think we will get a release date during this showcase. But I hope that we will get to see the game in motion and a focused representation of what this game will be when it launches.

Silent Hill 2 Remake

To say there is a lot of pressure on Bloober Team, the developers behind Silent Hill 2 Remake, is an understatement. Ever since the famous “PT” demo by Kojima Productions, there has been a hunger for Silent Hill that Konami has chosen to ignore for a long time. Now with a wealth of new Silent Hill games being in development, it appears that Konami is invested in the IP once again. Bloober Team appears to be leading the charge of the upcoming spread of Silent Hill games, with a remake of Silent Hill 2. Many fans have rose-tinted glasses for the 2nd installment of Silent Hill, no matter how good this remake looks. There will likely be drama amongst the hardcore fan base in how this title is being handled.

With all of that being said, I fully expect to see a gameplay trailer for Silent Hill 2 Remake during the PlayStation Showcase. This is also one I could see us getting a release date for, however, I do not think the game will release until Spring of 2024. With strong Fall games like Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and more, it seems unnecessary for Bloober to rush this title out this year. After all expectations for this remake are going to be exceptionally high.

Death Stranding 2

The reveal of Death Stranding 2 was a big surprise for many at the 2022 Game Awards. Kojima Productions delivered a bizarre and exciting adventure with Death Stranding in 2019. Combining an all-star cast with Kojima’s out-of-this-world storytelling, Death Stranding was a game like no other, that is until we learned about the sequel.  As we will no doubt keep on keeping on in the sequel, it will be interesting to see what changes Kojima will bring to the world. While the narrative will certainly be interesting undoubtedly, I am eager to see how the sequel will transform and build off of the first title.

I do not think we will see a release date for this game, Kojima Productions will take all the time they need to craft this sequel. I think we may see a short cinematic trailer with some returning characters, alongside a tease of gameplay being revealed at Geoff Keighleys upcoming Summer Game Fest. There is no doubt that these trailers will be weird, but I am patiently waiting to lose myself in the weirdness.

The Wild Ones At The PlayStation Showcase

Bloodborne Directors Cut/Bloodborne 2

Ok, I swear this will be the last time I ever believe anyone when it comes to Bloodborne. While rumors have been spreading for over 3 years about a PC port for this title existing, every time PlayStation has a show our hopes will rise and then they fall. Like clockwork every time a PlayStation show is announced Bloodborne will trend on social media. It has become a vicious cycle of depression for fans of this gothic Soulsborne title. The thirst for a remaster or remake is strong amongst the massively expanding Souls fandom. But I just don’t know if this will ever come to fruition for fans at this showcase.

In a perfect world, I could see a Director’s Cut style release for Bloodborne that sees the game come to PS5 and PC natively. This would be a smart release for PlayStation as the resources to make this happen would be much more manageable than a new title. Also releasing a Director’s Cut would give PlayStation hard numbers on the demand for a possible sequel. PlayStation takes calculated risks when it comes to their game releases, and if they use a Director’s Cut to gauge interest I think it would be a very smart move. With that being said, if we don’t see anything Bloodborne related at this showcase, I think it might be time to pack up this rumor for good.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake

PlayStation Showcase

Now you may think that I am crazy for leaving the long-rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake/Remaster in the wild category. But with how many times Konami has left me disappointed it is very hard for me to change my mind now. With many rumors point to an imminent release of possibly one of the best Metal Gear games. It is hard to not get excited, but there is just some small part of me that believes this will end up being a Metal Gear Solid 3 Pachinko machine.

I know I will likely be proven wrong about this, but I am curious as to the scale of this Remaster or Remake. With remakes like the Resident Evil 4 Remake, the bar is set pretty high for what people will expect. I believe that this will be a more in-depth Remaster. That will bring modern textures, and adjusted controls to make the gameplay more smooth. I know many people want to believe that Bluepoint is working on the remake, but the studio is heavily focusing on its upcoming new IP. For now, we will all just have to cross our fingers and hope that Konami has partnered with a team that understands why people fell in love with Metal Gear.

Wolverine

PlayStation Showcase

Now you may be curious as to why I have Wolverine as a long shot. I have to make it clear that this isn’t because I do not think that Insomniac Games isn’t far enough in development to show something. I believe we won’t see anything from Wolverine simply because we do not need to know more right now. After the reveal, there were several job openings posted by Insomniac Games in order to grow and expand their team. It is clear that the studio is expanding very quickly in order to work on the ever-growing pipeline of games coming from the studio. I think that the focus will be on Spider-Man 2 and showing why it is the premier Marvel release for this Fall/Holiday season.

It is important that PlayStation showcases and gives these superhero games time to breathe, as we have seen with the Marvel cinematic offerings. Too much at one time will eventually overwhelm the audience. With that being said I would love to be proven wrong on this one.
