A couple of days ago, Square Enix released a major content update for Triangle Strategy. Bringing with it a new extra chapter that serves as an epilogue for the game. As well as some much-needed features. It is a very small update to the game, but one that was worth setting back up my Nintendo Switch to play its contents. Here is what you can expect from the content update and if you should bother with it if you have already moved on as I have.
Triangle Strategy Extra Chapter Contents
The Extra Chapter that was added in this update can only be played after playing through the game’s “Golden Route” or true ending. After you finish your playthrough, you will see the option in the main menu. Selecting it will load up a somewhat short chapter that fills in a blank following the true ending. Namely, the wedding between Serenoa and Frederica. I will not get into specifics of the chapter’s story as it is best to experience it yourself. But they did a fantastic job at delivering an epilogue that covers so many character dynamics and even has some improved elements to it. For instance, the voice acting for certain characters. Such as Geela and Cordelia.
Both of their vocal performances I had a lot of problems with. Geela seemed either too far away from her microphone, spoke very low or her audio mixing was off. In this extra chapter, I can understand her loud and clear despite still not having a potent vocal performance. Cordelia on the other hand sounded like she had a more confident voice. Either this was fitting for the character following the events of the story, or she was given better voice direction. Some characters like Frederica even have an updated character model near the end that is well designed, both in portrait and in cutscenes.
The extra chapter they added felt like a final hurrah for the game and I enjoyed it very much. There was not a combat encounter, so I just sat back and enjoyed the overall chapter. It was heartwarming, funny, and romantic at times, clocking in at under 30 minutes. But alongside this, they added the ability to replay battles from the main story in Triangle Strategy.
More Replayability
In Triangle Strategy you can now replay story battles from the main story. To do this, you only need to visit Hassabara, the Tavernkeeper, and tab over in the mock battle menu. Here you can replay any and all story battles you experienced from your normal playthrough and new game plus. The rewards are limited to very useful health restore items, but this allows players to go back into battles they had problems with and master them. Some of the best moments in Triangle Strategy are in certain battles. Like fighting Avlora outside the castle or taking down Thalas and Erika.
Being able to relive and master these fights at any time is a really cool feature, as you can also level up in these fights too. Additionally, if you visit the War Chronicle you can relive character story moments as well, which is a great feature to relive great interactions between characters.
Some other additions in this content update for Triangle Strategy also give you the option to skip splash art from the developers while the game is loading up. As well as being able to skip over pause moments between character dialogue, namely the ones where three dots appear. But this is everything in the big content update for Triangle Strategy. It is free and very worth checking out if you are itching for another playthrough. For new players, the ability to replay fights from the story should help them as the game progresses.
Triangle Strategy is available on PC via Steam and the Nintendo Switch for $59.99.
