5 Games to Spend Your Concord Refund On
Concord is going to go down in history for the worst triple A game launched for a myriad of reasons that I hope none of the developers intended for it to. Debates can be made whether the character designs were truly to blame, or if the launch offerings were not enough and if people waited for updates that the game could have offered so much more in the long run. However, seeing as the game is no longer available to purchase, and the servers are off within two weeks of existing, all players are going to be given back the money they spent on it.
This means if you bought Concord, you are either going to be given $39.99 USD, or $59.99 USD if you bought the deluxe edition. As gamers, when we spend money on a game, that money was always intended for that game. That’s where I come in, as if you were looking for something to buy in place of Concord to enjoy yourself, I will be giving 5 recommendations for games you can check out on either PlayStation 5, or Steam!
1. Sea of Thieves
Recently released onto PlayStation 5 this year from Microsoft Gaming, Sea of Thieves is an online multiplayer game with a first-person perspective that can either be played in a Player-vs-environment-vs-Player scenario. Meaning you can either fight enemies on the open seas, or against random players with your own crew. Or you can now play it completely free of enemy players in the “Safer Seas” update. You will earn less rewards in this mode, but you can still enjoy your time with friends if you hate losing your loot to enemy players.
Sea of Thieves is exactly $39.99 USD and can be bought on PlayStation 5 and Steam for $32.49 USD on sale right now until September 16th, then it will be $49.99 USD.
2. Helldivers 2
Despite having some rough patches since its launch, Helldivers 2 is a cooperative third person shooter where you can take on hordes of alien bugs and automatons in cinematic firefights with random players or friends. The game was a runaway hit and can give you many days, weeks or months of fun and has even a massive free content update called the “Escalation of Freedom”.
Helldivers 2 is available for $39.99 USD on PlayStation 5, and Steam respectively.
3. Paladins
Paladins by Evil Mojo Games is a free-to-play hero shooter that has seen dozens of new heroes, many new maps, modes and a ludicrous number of skins, some of which can be earned via the hero mastery system. If you would like to know what makes the game stand out in the current hero shooter market, it has two systems that make playing any hero different from another player.
For starters, the card system can buff and even change certain abilities in a hero’s kit. Whether that is adding timed bonuses, minute stat changes, more health or faster movement speed when doing certain things, it adds a layer of depth that you play around with to tune every hero to your liking. On top of this is a system that adds match specific buffs depending on how well you are playing and can sometimes turn the tide either by receiving more healing, increasing reload speed or improving mount speed to get back into the match faster.
Paladins is free-to-play, but you can purchase certain packs that range from $9.99 USD to $59.99 USD that gives you access to skins, more heroes and premium currency for the games battle pass. It is available on both PlayStation 5, and Steam.
4. Overwatch 2
If you were looking for the title that made hero shooters popular on consoles, Overwatch 2 is free-to-play and offers dozens of free characters to play as. There are also some player vs environment missions you can access too, and the game features a seasonal model where you can buy a battle pass to unlock a variety of skins and other goodies.
Overwatch 2 can be played for free on PlayStation 5 and Steam and similar to Paladins you can purchase packs that range from $9.99 USD to $39.99 USD.
5. Wayfinder Echoes
A personal recommendation I can give that can go towards a development studio that has faced hardship this year from no fault of their own is Wayfinder. The Echoes update that launched in June of this year changed what was originally an MMORPG into a fully-fledged Diablo-lite title that can be played solo, with friends or random players via a server browser.
The game is massive and has excellent variety in heroes you can play as, and the weapons you can use. You can either be a shadow mage with a scythe, or a poison throwing gunner with a rifle and even a dark elf with dual daggers fighting off against giant spiders, legions of spirit warriors or the dark forces of a void beyond reality. The developers of the title have recently been hit with layoffs due to the game’s performance at launch, and lost their publisher and could use any support they can get.
Wayfinder is available for $24.99 USD on Steam right now and on PlayStation 5.
All five games listed above can be enjoyed on their own merits with friends, random players or alone and will most likely never be taken away from you. Obviously, there are other games you can play instead if you are not interested in online games at this time. Such as:
- Astro Bot, which is on PlayStation 5 exclusively for $59.99 and has received universal acclaim.
- Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor which are on the harder side of games, but the challenges presented feel great to overcome.
- Hogwarts Legacy, which is a third person action-adventure game with a massive open world set in the Harry Potter universe.
- The recently released Age of Mythology: Retold which can be purchased on Steam.
- If you are on PC, Satisfactory is on Steam and available for $39.99 USD and is being released out of early access with a talented and dedicated development team on Tuesday.
