It is no doubt that Control was a sleeper hit game of last year. After being relatively unnoticed during its launch, when it failed to even crack the top 20 best selling games in the US. Many were worried about whether the game had been a failure for Remedy Games. However, after a big boost in word of mouth from its various nominations at The Game Awards last year. On top of all of this, the game has been discounted regularly on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Today, we got some interesting data directly from Remedy in regards to the success and milestones that the company has had with their new IP.
Control Continues To Move Upward
In a report from Gamesindustry.biz, it was revealed that Control has sold over 2 million copies since its release back in August 2019. This makes Control Remedy’s second-fastest-growing IP since Alan Wake, which ironically had a tie in DLC with Control. Control is available on multiple platforms versus being exclusively in the Xbox ecosystem, as many of their previous titles. Certainly played a role in the success of the game. Some other interesting statistics in regards to the success of the game was how much the game has sold recently. Remedy cited that November 2020 had been the most successful month for the game since its launch. This means that the game has an incredible set of legs, considering it is a single-player focused experience. Remedy also noted that 90% of their game sales in 2020 have been through digital storefronts. This is up from 60% in 2019, which is a massive leap in such a short time. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Remedy games, however, it’s great to see that Control despite its early signs, has ended up being a success for the company.
