The gaming industry has been growing at a rapid rate over the past few years. While there has been plenty of consolidation from the likes of Microsoft, Sony, and Embracer Group. However, the growth isn’t only via acquisition, there have been plenty of independent studios that have been popping up in the past few years. The fact of the matter is there is a lot of senior talent within the gaming industry that want to strike out on their own and create their own studio. This is a highly ambitious goal that a handful of leads from British studio Playground Games have now embarked on with Maverick Games.
As reported by VGC former Forza Horizon creative director Mike Brown will be the lead behind the brand-new Leamington Spa-based studio. Maverick Games is looking to create a new premium open-world game, that will be focused on PC and Console releases. The studio is currently in its early stages of building and hiring but is already filled with some highly talented individuals. The leadership team consists of industry veterans such as Harinder Sangha who previously was the co-studio lead of Sumo Digital’s Leamington studio. Matt Craven and Fraser Stratchan who were also major players behind the Forza Horizon at Playground Games have also joined the team.
Mike Brown offered a simple statement about the focus they had on building Maverick Games.
“For players, we’re already at work on an exciting ultra-high quality title, and for developers, we’re building a home where everyone is encouraged to take risks, be curious, be creative, be innovative, be themselves, and above all – be a Maverick.”
While there are currently not many details about the game they are creating. It is exciting that another development studio is being built from the ground up. It shows the industry is still healthy and continuing to grow despite tough economic times.
