Baldur’s Gate 3 Top 5 Best Classes
There are a lot of classes and builds for your characters in this Game of the Year, Baldur’s Gate 3. If you want to play a specific class, chances are it’s in there. So today I will talk about what the Top 5 Best Classes in Baldur’s Gate 3. So let’s get into it!
5. Rogue
As someone who has played a lot of Dungeons and Dragons and other games with a “class system,” I’m a big rogue fan. Rogues have excellent mobility in games. They have abilities like Cunning Action that allow them to disengage, dash, or hide as a bonus action. This provides them with the advantage of being hard to be pinned down by hostiles. Rogues can utilize their sneak attack ability. Sneak Attack offers consistently high single-target damage every round.
Having “expertise” provides the class with a lot of versatility. The high skill proficiency makes Rogues invaluable for lockpicking, traps, and scouting. In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Rogue has been one of the classes that allow me to control the conversation and get the desired outcome I want. The options of deception and other skills help you achieve these things. Rogues are versatile in both combat and exploration, providing excellent burst damage, mobility, and skill utility.
4. Wizard
Wizards can learn more spells than any other class, making them incredibly versatile for damage, crowd control, and utility. Leading essentially to having a massive spellbook to take care of whatever may need to be done. Arcane Recovery allows them to regain spell slots on a short rest, giving them endurance on long adventuring days. Very useful so you don’t have to waste resources for long rests to recover spells. Wizards have access to iconic spells like Fireball and Cone of Cold for high AOE damage. Then the subclasses provide some great versatility like the Evocation subclass.
Nothing better than dropping a powerful spell near or on an ally and knowing your class feature allows them to pass the save for the spell automatically. This is very useful in fights where you face off against a lot of enemies which chances are it will happen in your playthroughs. Wizards shine in crowd control, battlefield manipulation, and raw magical power. Their ability to adapt to any situation with their vast spell list makes them one of the most versatile casters. Lastly, the Wizard also can learn spells from the scrolls you find in Baldur’s Gate 3.
3. Cleric
I don’t tend to play as a cleric, but the class definitely deserves its flowers. Parties in games die without proper healing or support and Baldur’s Gate 3 is no different. Clerics have access to some of the best healing spells around. Healing Word, Cure Wounds, and Bless. Then combining these with being able to heal the whole party at times is invaluable. The class also has great durability. They can wear heavy armor and shields, making them quite tanky for a caster.
Nothing better than standing on the frontlines and fighting when needed. But then being able to heal someone or everyone is amazing. The Cleric class has access to different domains that they can draw on for other divine spells. Domains such as Life, Light, and Trickery provide unique spells and abilities, giving a Cleric high customization potential. They can tank, heal, and deal damage with divine spells. This makes Clerics the ultimate support class while still being formidable in combat.
2. Sorcerer
Sorcerers are similar to Wizards in some aspects as they pull spells from the “arcane” side of magic. This class has access to the class feature “Metamagic” which allows flexibility when it comes to casting spells. Some of these are Twinned, Quickened, and Subtle which allow you to cast them in different ways to fit the situations you can find yourself in. With a wide array of offensive spells, Sorcerers can deal high burst damage from range.
The Sorcerer class is charisma-based for their spells, which allows for great social interaction, persuasion, and intimidation in roleplay. All of which are very useful in Baldur’s Gate 3. Overall, the Sorcerer’s “Metamagic” allows you to adapt spells to different situations, and their spell list provides high versatility and damage output.
1. Paladin
Even though this class is my least favorite in Baldur’s Gate 3 and any type of game really, the top spot goes to the Paladin class. Paladins can be played in several different ways which also makes them so versatile in how they are played. They have access to “Divine Smite” which provides incredible burst damage when combined with melee attacks. Auras of the Paladin class can use powerful auras like “Aura of Protection”, which boosts saving throws for the whole party.
Like a Cleric, but not quite on the same level they can be used to heal and support people as well. They can provide healing with “Lay on Hands” and spells like “Cure Wounds.” Depending on how you build the Paladin they can also be useful in conversation and dialogues as well. Paladins get to be tanks with high burst damage potential and strong party buffs. All this makes them invaluable in both offense and defense in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Final Thoughts on the Best Classes of Baldur’s Gate 3
One of the things I admire about Baldur’s Gate 3 and this style of game is that there is a way for everyone to play the characters they want. If you want to be a tank or always in the midst of combat you can. If you want to be a Ranger or Druid and provide utility in that way you can. If you want to sling spells and heal you can from a distance you can.
Then my main style of hiding in shadows and sneaking up to sneak attack someone I can. These aren’t even all the classes available in Baldur’s Gate 3, there are more. Let me know what you think about this list and the other classes. Stay tuned for the next one and the 5 best builds in Baldur’s Gate 3.
