The Lords’ Most Anticipated Games: October 2024
The Fall Harvest Is Here!
Let the reaping begin! The yield of games over the last few years has been small but fret no more! This year we have much to celebrate! Let’s look at what October game releases the contributors to Lords of Gaming are excited about!

Metaphor: ReFantazio is my most anticipated game of October and one of my most anticipated games for the year. I was a latecomer to many Atlus games having only started with Persona 5 in 2017, and now Persona is one of my favorite series of all time. I love that Atlus is taking a Persona-style game and applying it to a high fantasy setting, maintaining their signature style and turn-based combat, and combining that with some real-time action elements and of course the social sim gameplay that they are known for. Metaphor: ReFantazio looks to be a game-of-the-year contender and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

When it comes to games releasing in October we have quite a few. The one I’m most excited about is Metaphor: Refantazio. I love my turn-based JRPGs and RPGs. Some of my favorite times have been getting lost in a unique world and story for hours on end. Metaphor seems to be the next game coming out that has that ability to pull me in. Everything from the videos we’ve seen of gameplay to the overall aesthetic I’m ready to inject it into my veins, figuratively speaking.

The game I am most looking forward to next month is Metaphor: ReFantazio. A proper JRPG that looks appealing, with a mix of turn-based and real-time battle systems plus a writing team, made up of industry veterans with stellar track records, this is as close to “Can’t Miss” as we’re getting this year.

It’s that time of year again, fall is now synonymous with non-stop video game releases. No doubt there’s a lot coming in October and it’s difficult to pick just one title that has me hyped. But for some reason, an expansion is what has me excited the most. That’s right, the Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred expansion is my most anticipated release of October.
I love ARPGs and Diablo is the OG when it comes to isometric loot-based ARPGs. Vessel of Hatred will introduce the new Spiritborn class, which looks like a mixture of a druid and Amazon along with a slew of new gameplay improvements and revamp. Any Blizzard fan knows that the developer goes hard in their Diablo expansions, and I expect nothing less with Vessel of Hatred when it releases on October 8.

In a month packed with many horror-themed titles, such as the Until Dawn remake or even the remake of Silent Hill 2. Many big titles will be taking center stage, like the annual Call of Duty release, and even the highly anticipated Metaphor: ReFantazio. But the only thing I am truly excited for is the release of Warframe‘s next major content update, Koumei and The Five Fates on October 2nd. A Japanese-themed, horror update that brings to the game so much cool content to enjoy, alongside so many reworks to different systems and warframes.
The biggest treat of the update however is the demo for the upcoming major expansion to the game, Warframe: 1999, coming on October 16th and free to try for anyone who finishes the tutorial quests. Sure, the month is going to be filled with so many games to pick from but let’s always keep in mind truly free-to-play games that will always offer you some enjoyment in the downtime between major releases.

Neva is the latest game from Nomada Studio and their publisher Devolver Digital. It will be released on the 15th of October 2024 on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and the Nintendo Switch. This side-scrolling platformer is my most anticipated game of the month due to the striking art style, the surreal atmosphere, and the animation that lends this game a grace that reminds me of the scenery and tempo of Samurai Jack, where quiet moments are allowed to breathe and occupy space between bouts of combat.

Super Mario Party Jamboree is potentially going to be the last Mario Party game made exclusively for the Switch. Jamboree touts 7 different boards to play on and over 110 mini-games. After just watching the trailer it looks pretty fun. They are toying around with new ideas this time, as opposed to Mario Party Superstars which just had boards and minigames from the older Mario Party titles. Super Mario Party Jamboree launches on the Switch on October 17th, 2024, and will cost $59.99 at launch.

October is such a competitive month for game releases this year. At least three titles are vying for my undivided attention. If I had to pick one game amongst the rest, it would have to be Dragon Age: The Veilguard. There is so much riding on its success at Bioware, but I was genuinely impressed with its first gameplay reveal. Radial wheel strategic combat and lore continuing from the Dragon Age: Inquisition (Solas character) shined for me. I also feel no one handles romance in games better than the Dragon Age franchise, and love will be in the air come October 31st.

This may surprise a lot of people who game with me, but one of the games I’m excited to play in a few weeks is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Not because of the multiplayer, which I am really not good at and I couldn’t do the new slide mechanic in the beta (See our Beta impressions HERE). But for the campaign, I’m hearing rumbling that thought really went into the story and it’s not too short. A nice change from recent entries.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 25. It will also be available through Xbox Game Pass on day one, and for $30 you can upgrade to the Vault Edition ($99 value).

Releasing on October 22nd for early access and the 25th for everyone else, my most anticipated game of 2024 is Sonic X Shadow Generations, a two-in-one release containing the critically beloved Sonic Generations and what is essentially a full-on sequel to the 2005 Shadow the Hedgehog.
As a lifelong Sonic fan, seeing the early 2000s elements of the franchise return, alongside the advances the series has made in releases like Sonic Generations and Sonic Frontiers has been hyped. Between the high-quality visuals, focus on building up Shadow as a character again and the quality level design present in Frontiers on full display in the stages, I can’t wait to play this in October.
It’s Scary, How Many Great Games Are Coming
Hey, I had to get a Halloween reference in here somewhere. Picking one game to highlight right now can be difficult. Please let us know what game(s) coming in October you are hyped for over on X (formerly Twitter) Lords of Gaming.
