Final Fantasy and Marvel MTG Universes Beyond
With their Universe’s Beyond Products, Magic The Gathering has been branching out for quite some time now. We have seen franchises like The Walking Dead, Stranger Things, Assassins Creed, Street Fighter, Fallout, Fortnite, and many others. I’ve always been in the camp of not purchasing these products, but that might change. We have the upcoming Final Fantasy and Marvel crossovers coming. So let’s talk about what I’d like to see from them.
Final Fantasy Universes Beyond
Usually, I do not buy many of the Universes Beyond products. I have bought some Lord of the Rings, Fallout, and very few other crossover products. One that I really want to get my hands on is whatever the Final Fantasy products will be. What we do know is it will at least be a fully draftable set similar to the Lord of the Rings set. So that means it will be like 36 packs in each box non-collector boxes. With Magic creators Wizards of the Coast love for Commander ever rising, we can expect to see some Commander decks as well for that format.
There are so many legendary individuals in the franchise that I expect there to be plenty of legendary creatures in the set. I also hope the Commander decks fetch a premium price, especially with the popularity of Cloud and Sephiroth -if they are the commanders for those decks. With prices slowly on the rise with different products, my prediction is for the “normal” booster boxes to float around US$250. That means Collector boxes will be around US$150 or more than that. The release is predicted to be around Q2 2025.
Marvel Universes Beyond
Now I’m not a giant Marvel fan or anything, but there is a lot of potential for Wizards to make a ton of money off of whatever deal they have with Marvel. I believe they should go all out with a full set release, multiple commander products, playmats, and whatever else they can come up with. Marvel is a huge franchise and people that don’t even play Magic the Gathering would buy these products. Then you have people like me who aren’t big fans.
But we would buy some of the products because we play the game. I can’t stress how huge the IP of Marvel is. Video game companies would kill to have access to make games based on Marvel. So you can just think about all the money there is to be made if taken advantage of. Plus it adds the potential to bring people into the game that normally wouldn’t play. Marvel’s Universes Beyond release is still up in the air, but my guess would be sometime around Q2 2026.
Final Thoughts
It took me a long time to warm up to buy any of these products. As they venture more and more into the video game space and other franchises it pulls more and more people in. I mean look at all the hype around the special serialized (1/1) “The One Ring” that Post Malone now owns. He paid around US$2.6 million for it. That’s just the Lord of the Rings franchise. Imagine what they can do with Final Fantasy that’s been around for years and the ever-growing huge IP of Marvel. Let me know what type of products you would like to see in these sets.
