Originally a PlayStation 4 exclusive and released on PC with 505 Games later before Sony’s big multiplatform push, Kojima Productions Death Stranding is breaking new ground. After flirting with the Xbox ecosystem with a PC Game Pass release of Death Stranding, the title’s Directors Cut edition is now released on Xbox Series consoles and the Windows Store.

Death Stranding Directors Cut on Xbox Series X/S & Windows PC

Announced on Twitter/X via the official Kojima Productions account, Death Stranding Directors Cut is now out on Xbox Series X & S platforms, alongside a Windows PC version today. This version of the PlayStation Studios and Kojima Productions delivery-focused adventure includes new content and more action-focused elements not present in the original release.

In addition, this is a Play Anywhere title. So not unlike Metaphor: ReFantazio and the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, if you buy it on Xbox, you get it on the Windows PC store.

What PlayStation Studios Game is Next for Xbox?

This situation is quite interesting, as while 505 Games is listed as the publisher, this still is a PlayStation Studios production. So, the possibility of games PlayStation and Sony ‘not fully owning’ or having a second-party relationship with coming to Xbox has risen.

Insominac’s Spider-Man games could be next, considering the age of both Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Both games have been out for a while now and Sony could easily get additional money back by releasing them on Xbox.

Another possibility is games like Stellar Blade and Helldivers 2. Skill Up commented about bringing the game to PC, with that work potentially being spent making an Xbox version down the line. The game was originally a multiplatform game when it was called ‘Project Eve’ after all.

Regarding Helldivers 2, Arrowhead said it’s completely in Sony’s hands regarding that release. Considering its multiplayer-focused nature, bringing it to a platform that thrives on multiplayer shooters is a great idea.

Closing Thoughts

I’m always open to games released on more platforms. So seeing Kojima working with 505 Games and PlayStation Studios to get their engaging experience on more platforms is fantastic.

Between the recent iOS/Mac release and now launching on Xbox platforms, people have plenty of ways to catch up on Kojima’s wild story before the sequel Death Stranding 2: On the Beach next year.
