Dive into the Heart – Kingdom Hearts III + ReMind Preview (Nintendo Switch 2)

A scene from the Frozen World in KH3, running on Nintendo Switch 2.

By far the biggest welcome surprise of the June 2026 Nintendo Direct was the Kingdom Hearts I-III Collection, coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in October 2026. Utilizing the Nintendo Switch 2’s horsepower, these iconic action/RPG’s will finally be natively playable on modern Nintendo consoles.

To celebrate the announcement, Square Enix released a demo of Kingdom Hearts III + ReMind for Nintendo Switch 2. Covering two of the game’s Disney Worlds, I’m excited to report the strengths of this portable way to play one of the best action/RPG’s from the PS4 era.

Kingdom Hearts III + ReMind is the definitive release of Kingdom Hearts III. This action JRPG concludes a multi-game-long narrative. Sora ventures across various Disney and Pixar worlds, with Donald Duck and Goofy helping him along the way.

Piloting toy mechs in Toy Story’s Toy Box, scaring creatures senseless in the city of Monstropolis from Monsters, Inc., and even exploring the great seas in Pirates of the Caribbean, every world in KH3 does something fun and unique.

Sure, its narrative can be messy, but the core combat mechanics, open level design, and great sense of variety throughout the adventure made KH3 one of the best games of the last generation. In addition, it was expanded with a DLC called ‘ReMind‘.

This expansion added several hours to the game’s end-game, alongside adding several challenging Data Battles to test mastery of the game’s tight combat system. But how does it all feel on Nintendo Switch 2?

Advent Reds – Nintendo Switch 2 Demo Impressions

To my surprise, the Kingdom Hearts III + ReMind demo on Switch 2 has a lot of content to play through. There are two worlds to play through. One is the opening in Olympus with the option to play through its opening sections at several difficulty options. Meanwhile, the second world includes the opening areas of Toy Story’s Toy Box world.

The controls feel similar to other versions of the game. Meaning, the Switch 2 version doesn’t use features exclusive to the hardware, like Gyro Aiming for the Shotlock mechanic. That being said, the similarities to other versions don’t end at the control scheme.

Similar to the PlayStation 4 version of KH3, the Switch 2 version targets 60 FPS across handheld and docked modes. Playing through both worlds in Handheld Mode, it largely maintained a 60 FPS target, with the Toy Box world sporting flawless performance.

Closing Thoughts on Kingdom Hearts III + Remind on Switch 2

Finishing the demo, I walked away excited to play through one of my favorite action/RPG’s again later this year. Running very well in this early build, the Switch 2 is getting a native release of an epic action/RPG. KH3 + ReMind can be pre-ordered standalone or included in the Kingdom Hearts Collection (I-III), releasing October 8th, 2026.
