Sony to Show PS5 and Launch Games on June 4th 4PM EST
Today President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan announced when Sony will officially unveil the PS5 launch plans. Over on the PS Blog, there is a post detailing the event. The event will take place on June 4th at 4PM EST. This comes after a few difficult months across the world as publishers and Sony work on how to present the next 5 to 7 years of gaming while locked down at home. The move comes as the production of the PS5 is set to begin next week in China. Sony wanted to get ahead of the inevitable leaks out of the manufacturing facilities.
It appears both the console itself and the launch games will be on display at this event. As Ryan details, “That’s why I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday. The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.”
It appears we may only get to see the console itself and the launch games. The digital event will run about an hour long. There is no reason to expect deep dives with droves of games in addition to a breakdown of the console itself. The wording here seems to indicate this will just be PS5 launch window titles. There is also a rumored State of Play event for August that will go into detail on PS4, PSVR, and PS5 games. This is rumored to be a larger collection of games over all three platforms.
