Final Fantasy XIV is by far one of Square Enix’s most successful games. The now-beloved MMO has a rocky start when it launched back in 2013, but now fast forward to 2021, and it’s possibly one of the biggest MMOs on the market. The upcoming Endwalker expansion has been highly anticipated by fans through this year and promises to wrap up long-running story threads. While this expansion was supposed to launch this month on the 23rd, however, that is no longer the case.
The Delay Of Endwalker
Today in a blog post from Director Naoki Yoshida, it was announced that Endwalker would be receiving a short delay. Instead of its original November 23rd release date, Endwalker will now be releasing on December 7th. With early access to the expansion now opening up on December 3. Yoshida was incredibly apologetic for the short notice delay.
“There are several reasons for the postponement, but as I’m the one overseeing all aspects of the title as the head of the project, the responsibility falls solely on me. Allow me to convey my sincerest apologies to our players, our Warriors of Light around the world who have been looking so forward to the release of Endwalker. I am truly sorry.”
Endwalker is being touted as one of the biggest expansions to Final Fantasy XIV to date. If the team needs a few more weeks to polish the content, I commend them for the decision. Final Fantasy XIV’s momentum over the past year has been incredible to observe. The last thing Yoshida and Square Enix want to do is topple all the goodwill they have built with fans to simply rush an expansion out the door. We look forward to playing Endwalker when it releases on December 7th.
