How does Mouse: P.I. For Hire run on Series X?

Mouse: P.I. For Hire on Xbox Series X

Mouse: P.I. For Hire is one of the most visually unique titles to hit the market in 2026. It merges a gritty detective noir narrative with a beautifully striking rubber-hose cartoon aesthetic, truly looking like a classic animation brought to life. Although the art style leans on retro charm, the technology underneath requires modern muscle to keep its fast-paced boomer shooter shootouts feeling responsive and fluid. On Xbox Series X, Mouse: P.I. runs exceptionally well and gives players 2 distinct ways to explore, fight, and uncover the seedy secrets of Mouseberg.

Resolution & Performance in Mouse: P.I.

Mouse: P.I. on Series X offers two graphic options: Performance and Quality mode. The quality mode runs at a native 4k resolution and targets a stable 60fps frame rate. While the Performance mode drops the rendering resolution to around 1600p, it targets a blazing 120fps frame rate. Although I noticed an ever-so-minor decrease in visual clarity when switching between the two modes. I would grate-ly recommend playing this title in the performance mode. It is incredibly stable, and the perceived image quality is still solid at normal viewing distances. Shooters just feel brie-lliant at 120fps!

Overall thoughts on the game

Beyond the raw numbers, Mouse: P.I. For Hire runs exceptionally well on Xbox’s flagship console. Loading and booting into the game happen in a flash. A massive benefit to the Xbox ecosystem is the console’s Quick Resume feature, alongside the fact that the game supports Play Anywhere. This means that if you buy it once on the Xbox storefront, you can download and play it on PC or handhelds that support the Xbox PC app, like the ROG Ally. It is a fantastic quality of life feature that more developers need to get on board with. The only real knock I have against the Series X version is an ever-so-slight hitch when saving, but outside of that, it really is a rock-solid experience. Check out the full performance specs for the various consoles below.

The game itself is a ton of fun. Mixing boomer shooter elements with a wonderfully written and pun-filled noir story. And the art style does wrap this game up in a nice little bow. The wrinkle that I love is that each weapon has an alternative fire mode when pressing down on the left trigger.

To fully appreciate the smoothness on display while playing on the controller, I highly recommend players dial into the settings, adjust sensitivity, and tweak the various options to tailor the experience to their liking.

Verdict on Mouse: P.I

I have nothing but gouda things to say about my time in Mouseberg. Mouse: P.I. on Xbox Series X is a sharp port of a very aesthetically driven boomer shooter. Fumi Games didn’t just rely on a unique visual gimmick; the game is mechanically sound, content-complete and technically proficient.
