New Fable Gameplay Demo Shows off Its Life Simulator Gameplay and Smaller Choice Systems

Xbox has been on a roll with news for its upcoming reboot of Fable. Yes, it’s been delayed into 2027, but they have shown that Jack of Blades from the first game will be in it. So, fair trade, honestly. Yesterday, however, Playground Games dropped a lengthy 30-minute gameplay demo that showcased some of its more important gameplay elements without interruption and, honestly, great narration. This gameplay focused on the life simulation that Fable 2 and 3 were known for. Including the choices you can make in just a short amount of time. Here is everything we learned from it!

What we learned from the newest gameplay demo for Fable

It’s no secret that the newest entry would focus on the life simulation that the second and third games were known for. But no one really expected just how hard in the paint they would go with it. The demo started with the player having to make a choice in a town called Silverbrook to kill a talking pig or not. Obviously, this was funny, but it did highlight how often the player would make choices. They then explored a bit, giving money to a beggar and wooing a shopkeeper. The way this was presented was brilliant.

The player had to do certain things to go on a date with the woman in the demo. Including buying clothes, owning a business, and owning a home. They showed the player buying the tavern, hiring the beggar they gave money to, and buying clothes from a vendor who hated the player for owning a business like that. The only thing in the demo that was off-putting was the new job system. It’s more of a timed mini-game as opposed to an endless game mode to keep earning as long as you want. All of it was tied together wonderfully, however, and they saved the best part for last.

Anyone who has played Fable has done this at least once (or at least I hope so), and that is going full evil and murdering villagers and guards for fun. The combat looked very impressive, and the blending of sword, arrows, and magic was very fluid. They didn’t show off how deep the “Strength, Skill, and Will” system will be, however. But that will most likely be saved for another showcase.

For now, Fable looks jaw-dropping and is very mechanically intricate as life long fan of the series. Playground Games has something very special on its hands with this title on February 23rd next year. You can find the full gameplay demo here.
