A huge data breach at Arc System Works, the renowned developer behind hits like Guilty Gear Strive and BlazBlue, has uncovered significant findings so far. But, more information has been exposed: tantalizing details about not one, but two upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive projects. The first, shared by X0X_LEAK on X, is a game codenamed “Watari,” slated for an exclusive release on the Nintendo Switch 2 in November 2025, leveraging Unreal Engine 5.4. The second, uncovered in the same breach is a smaller title called “Project Life”, which has piqued curiosity with its unique description and modest scope.
Codename “Watari” — The Big One

Let’s start with “Watari.” The leak offers sparse details—only the codename, release window, and platform—but it’s enough to get your imagination going. Arc System Works has a storied history of crafting intricate 2D fighting games, often collaborating with other developers to bring beloved franchises into the fighting genre. Their work on Persona 4 Arena with Atlus in 2012 remains a fan favorite, blending RPG elements with fast-paced combat.
The codename “Watari,” which translates to “crossing” or “crossover” in Japanese, strongly hints at a potential crossover project—a specialty for Arc System Works, known for titles like BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, which united characters from BlazBlue, Persona 4 Arena, Under Night In-Birth, and RWBY in a thrilling 2v2 tag fighter. Given the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusivity, many are theorizing this new game could involve one of Nintendo’s iconic IPs.

As a lifelong fan of both Fire Emblem and Xenoblade Chronicles, I can’t help but hope that “Watari” might bring one of these beloved franchises into the 2D fighting game arena. Imagine a Fire Emblem fighting game where characters like Chrom, Hector, and Marth face off in Arc System Works’ signature high-octane style, with intricate combos and stunning sprite work powered by Unreal Engine 5.
Alternatively, a Xenoblade Chronicles 2D fighter would be equally thrilling. The series’ diverse cast including Shulk, Rex and Noah battling it out with ASW‘s signature flair would be a dream come true. Better yet, a Fire Emblem vs. Xenoblade Chronicles crossover announcement would possibly give me a heart attack from excitement. No matter what it is, I’m excited to see what ASW has in store with “Watari”
“Project Life” — The Small One

Meanwhile, the leak of “Project Life” offers a fascinating contrast. Described as a 2D visual novel/adventure game, it’s seemingly a much smaller project. Art assets that were posted by BOON Syndication on X (before being disabled due to copyright) give off strong Hotel Dusk: Room 215 vibes—a cult classic point-and-click adventure from the Nintendo DS era. Not much is known about this as well, but it is said to be of a smaller scope and could be developed by the ASW team that handled Another Code: Recollection, the remake of the DS and Wii cult hits.
Although most would say it’s not as exciting as “Watari”, this could still be a sleeper that finds a small, but dedicated audience, much like Famicom Detective Club. As a fan of this style of game, I’m excited to see what it is, especially if it’s related to Hotel Dusk.
Final Thoughts
While nothing is confirmed and all of this should be taken with a grain of salt, we may have two intriguing Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives to look forward to. As we await official announcements, these leaks have certainly sparked excitement for the upcoming lineup from Arc System Works.
With The Duskbloods and Hades 2 leading the charge, third-party exclusives on the Switch 2 are off to a good start. I’m excited to see what else Nintendo’s partners have in store for the hybrid successor.
